Lawmakers push bill to create latex guidelines

Associated Press - March 6, 2008

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - A House committee has passed a resolution that would require the state to create guidelines for the use of latex gloves during food preparation.
The House Health and Welfare Committee approved a measure Thursday directing the Department of Health and Welfare and the state Food Safety Advisory Council to review current research on health risks to consumers.
Allergies to latex have exploded in recent years due to increased exposure, according to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology.
About 6% of the general population have the allergies. Health care workers have a 10% risk of developing negative reactions.
