I have a job in a medical setting which puts me at risk for a latex allergy. Over the past several years, I've developed progressive symptoms when exposed to natural rubber latex gloves, condoms, and clothing elastic, such as skin pustules, difficulty breathing, and lightheadedness. I had a RAST test which came back as a low-positive for latex allergy, but a subsequent skin prick test with latex extract from my allergist's office was negative, although skin prick tests for other aeroallergens were positive. My symptoms decrease when I'm away from my work setting, but come back immediately when I return to work. Do I have a latex allergy, and will I be able to continue doing my current job?
